- Ben Folds Five contributed the song "Bad Idea" to the movie The Truth About Cats & Dogs starring Uma Thurman and Janeane Garofalo (1996). The demo version later appeared on the album Naked Baby Photos.
- "She Don't Use Jelly" on the compilation "Loungeapalooza" (1997) Hollywood Records
- Ben Folds Five contributed the song "Air" to the soundtrack for the film Godzilla (1998). It later appeared on the remastered version of Whatever and Ever Amen.
- Ben Folds Five recorded a cover of Steely Dan's "Barrytown" for the soundtrack of the movie Me, Myself, and Irene (2000), featuring Jim Carrey.
- "Lonely Christmas Eve" was composed and performed by Folds for the Jim Carrey film How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (2000). His song "Bizarre Christmas Incident" was also allegedly written for the film, but did not suit the tone of the movie.
- "Wandering" was featured in the 2000 film 100 Girls. It would later appear on Speed Graphic, and was subsequently featured in Kevin Smith's film, Jersey Girl (2004).
- Folds wrote the song "Prom Tonight" for Not Another Teen Movie (2001).
- A rendition of the Beatles' "Golden Slumbers" was contributed by Folds for the film I Am Sam (2001).
- "Losing Lisa" from Rockin' the Suburbs was featured in the film The Sweetest Thing (2002).

- "Your Dogs" from "Lonely Avenue" (2010), was featured as the opening theme to the CBS sitcom "$#*! My Dad Says" (2010-2011), starred by William Shatner.
